I chased in western Nebraska on Sunday May 27, 2007. Target
was an area around Big Springs, NE. Followed initial storms
down to Grant, NE but then saw the cell to the northwest looking
more isolated and more in the target zone. Turned around
at Grant and then headed north towards Big Springs. Went on
HWY 30 west and watched as cell approached from the west. This
cell put down a tornado very quickly before I had the video camera
setup and zoom lens out...so I had to settle with using my wide
angle lens. Saw amazing anvil to the north exploding.
Gave this cell a little longer and then decided to head north after
the northern storm. Took HWY 61 north to Hyannis and then HWY
2 west past Ellsworth. Great LP Supercell, the only bad thing
was it took forever to see the base while driving through the
sandhills...could have had a tornado but would have never seen
it. Amazing landscape out in the Nebraska Sandhills...just
breathtaking.
