Chase Account by: Brian Thalken
I chased with a few friends targeting the Dodge City, KS area
on May 4, 2007. We arrived in the Larned, KS area, just to the
north of Greensburg, KS around 4pm. We waited for initiation
and waited. Starting to have doubts now we still waited.
Then we saw a cell to our north that started to look interesting, so
we took off on HWY 183 to the north. The cell started to
develop a strong updraft and soon started an anvil.
As we
approached the town of Gaylord, KS we pulled over and took some
photos and shot some video, it had some rotation. The
rotation started to tighten up and then a small funnel
started to appear. The storm fast approached our location and we
unfortunately made a bad road decision and ended up in part of the
core, that part wasn't fun. More chase details to come...plus
more photos and video.
