Severe Thunderstorm - Beatrice
Nebraska - March 30, 2006

Severe thunderstorm southwest of Beatrice, NE - March 30, 2006
This was the
first severe thunderstorm warned cell I was on this year!
Impressive huh? Well it's a start to the year. I left
work early and headed south targeting an area south of the
Nebraska/Kansas border south of Beatrice, NE. I didn't make it
far when I came upon this cell developing to the southwest of
Beatrice around 12:30pm. I was trying to decide if I should
give this cell some development time. Thinking that today
might be pretty challenging, I didn't want to give up on it so
quickly, plus it was moving towards the Lincoln area in Lancaster
county. I could see the updraft...the first of the year for me
and it had somewhat of an interesting lowering out of the base that
had some scud action. It soon lost my interest and I was
monitoring radar checking out the cells in Kansas that at first
looked decent discrete cells but they soon quickly went linear and I
decided to cut my losses and head back to work to save the vacation
time for another chase day...until then...

Developing lowering from the base of this
severe thunderstorm. 12:39pm
